Have you seen the latest, most popular Internet controversy? Apparently some 22-year old punk who happens to (allegedly) be in the Marines in Iraq has posted a video on the Internet of himself throwing a puppy off a cliff.
This brings up a whole slew of issues. For example, many State-side have condemned not only this action but the punk kid who perpetrated this action against an innocent puppy. Now, I cannot condone what this soldier has done, assuming that the video is actually of a soldier and not someone who has a beef with the military. But for crying out loud--death threats? Give me a break.
We have people in this country who will themselves condemn those who perpetrate assaults against abortion clinics, yet they go ape insane about a puppy being thrown off a cliff half a world away? I mean, geez! Are you pro-Life or pro-Choice, for crying out loud. Save the puppies but screw the humans? Na'ah...nothing wrong with that position, now is there?
Second thought that comes to mind is that this kid, and that's pretty much all I can refer to a 22-year old as, barely has the brains to come in out of the rain, yet we're going to make this into some big bru-ha-ha against the military? Come on, people. We've all heard of a group of teenagers stringing a cat up by its tail and beating it to death. There's little difference here except that now this kid is wearing Marine fatigues--just one more excuse to go anti-war and anti-military.
Rule #1: It's not a very smart move to judge anyone or anything based on the actions of a 22-year old. If this kid were State-side, he'd be partying with his fraternity brothers, hazing each other and putting a whole lot worse stuff on youTube than this. Heck, maybe he'd even be sexually harassing co-ed's--heaven forbid we should sexually harass the female of the species, right?
It's kind of apalling that such an event--again, assuming the videos are somewhat accurate--even occurred in the first place. One, if a Marine perpetrated the event, then prosecute him. Two, on the off chance that some anti-war nut decided to stage the event somewhere, what a hypocrite! Kill a puppy to make someone else look bad for doing a job that saves lives State-side. Hmm--nobody ever thought of such a thing, right? I mean, American 20-somethings only go join al Qaeda in Afganistan, right? They wouldn't ever break the first rule of the left and kill an innocent puppy just to prove a point, would they?
But assuming that the event transpired exactly as the videos seem to portray it to have gone down, I would like to see just 1% of the righteous indignation exerted on the whole abortion issue that is now being violently wailed about on youTube.
Give...me...a...break!!
